"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good tidings to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour."

Confirmation is special outpouring of the Holy Spirit which is given to strengthen us to live the Christian life and proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ. It is the act of God which increases and completes what was given in Baptism, empowering us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. God gives this gift to enable us to become fully alive in His life and to witness to Jesus through what we say and do.
The sacrament of confirmation is usually celebrated by our bishop each year in Exeter. We alternate the place where the celebration for Exeter takes place between Sacred Heart church and Blessed Sacrament church.
This year bishop Nicholas will be coming to celebrate the sacrament of confirmation at Blessed Sacrament church at 12noon on Saturday November 21st.
Children need to be 14 years old to receive the sacrament of confirmation. An essential part of the preparation for confirmation is being present at the celebration of the mass each Sunday and joining in the overnight retreat. Unless there are unavoidable obstacles, those preparing for confirmation would normally be expected to join in the GIFT youth group. This group is for secondary school age children.
