The letter above was sent in October 1895 from a French priest, Germain Osdoit to the then Coadjutor Bishop of Plymouth, Charles Graham. It reads:

Monseigneur,

During one of his visits to the Priory of Saint Joseph in Marnhull, Your Grace expressed the desire to possess relics of Saint Boniface. I have been able to obtain some for you at the Archbishopric of Reims.

I take the liberty of offering them to Your Grace, asking in return that you kindly grant me, if possible, some relics of Saint Alfred the Great, of Saint Edward, of Saints Thomas, Anselm, and Augustine of Canterbury, of Saint Stephen Harding of Sherborne.

I humbly commend myself to Your Grace, being certain that your blessing will be a pledge of success for my scholarly work.

One of your former, very submissive diocesan priest,

Abbé G. Osdoit
